“Without You”

On the surface these may be unrelated, but not in my mind & heart. As I contemplate & anticipate this historic  inauguration, I can’t help but think of my Dad. He passed away in 2006. He was my best friend. When the announcement came that Obama had won, I cried. My tears were mixed with joy & sorrow as I wondered about how my Dad would have felt about this election and Obama. Likewise, whenever I hear this song I think of  him. Thanks again, Ayo, for another “heart song.”

“Germany is a developing country in terms of
racism

Noah tells it like it is when it comes to racism. An interview with the German Noah Sow about her new book Deutschland Black & white. Everyday Racism’.  She talks about her work as an anti-racism activist and about herself as a singer in a punk rock band. And for young people, she has a clear message too.

Noah Sow, born and raised in Bavaria Germany, is a moderater in radio and TV shows. She is also a
radio play writer, author, speaker and producer. As a composer and singer she became well known with the band  “Noah Sow & The Heimlich Maneuver.” In 2001, she founded the organization der braune mob, the first anti-racist media watch dog in Germany.

Even the most cautious estimates say that there are far more than 1,000,000 Blacks currently living in      Germany, most of whom are German citizens. This makes up more than one percent of the country’s population

In Germany Black & White, we learn how even German UNICEF advertising campaigns use racist clichés, why Bavaria is a developing country, and why the relationships between White mothers and Black children are more than just a family affair.

Thanks to the author’s unique talent to pair hard facts with humour, the result is a book that teaches about a subject that is as important as it is painful, in a way that is effective, substantial and entertaining.
